CAN YOU FIND DANIEL A JOB?

Unless Daniel Poawalio can find a U.S. employer by April 1, 2005, this college–educated, English–speaking Liberian economics specialist and his family face a grim future.

AN AFRICAN TRAPPED IN TIME AND PLACE
An educated, professional man is caught in the confines of a refugee camp in Ghana, West Africa.
Daniel Poawalio, a Liberian in exile, is living with his family without opportunity for employment, further education or freedom of travel. He is not permitted to work to support himself or his family while in the camp.

By any standards, this man has excelled in the face of great hardship. He earned a Bachelor’s (BSc) in Economics at the onset of a fourteen–year civil war; is a dedicated worker who supported his wife and family by holding administrative positions in the Liberian government for sixteen years; became a father determined to keep his family together through the worst hardships and atrocities of this terrible time.

For now, in the Buduburam Refugee Camp, they are out of harm’s way. They are also without a future.

Less than one percent of all refugees are ever relocated from their internment camps.

Daniel Fallah Poawalio is a man to make a difference. He needs the opportunity to work again: in policy making, finance, economics, management or teaching. His work history is exemplary, rooted in an ethic tested by the political discrimination, ethnic persecution and violence that he witnessed and experienced for years at his former workplace.

The Friends of Daniel invites you to help us in the urgent task of assisting Daniel in securing a paid position in the United States to match his credentials.

SOME QUICK FACTS ABOUT DANIEL AND HIS SITUATION
• For Daniel and his family’s day-to-day survival in Buduburam, he is currently dependent on outside financial support from the Friends of Daniel, who send $300 a month to him. Daniel himself uses his entrepreneurial skills to help meet this need.

• The Friends of Daniel’s urgent goal is to bring Daniel to the U.S.—and preferably to Denver, Colorado—on an H1B non–immigrant, temporary visa— the only way both he and his family can gain entrance to this country.
The filing date for this visa, for this fiscal year, is April 1, 2005. For more on the process of obtaining the visa, go to How You Can Help.

• The Friends of Daniel need your support in helping to pay the legal fees involved in relocating the family to the U.S.

• Daniel must have obtained a job in the United States before this visa can be filed. The job must match his Bachelor’s degree in Economics, or his work history in finance, human relations or management. The salary level must conform to the requirements of prevailing–wage labor law.

• Daniel’s strengths are in the areas of policy implementation, management and finance. He owns a late–model laptop computer, and updates his computer skills as he can at the camp.

His resume illustrates on–the–job industry and consistency. Daniel’s English is fluent; he is experienced and competent at writing and analyzing reports. His skills are diversified. He has integrity and a gentle sense of humor. He is reliable and strongly motivated.

An American employer would be lucky to have Daniel as an employee.
